I read this and it made me laugh. My wife and I have had a similar Friday night date tradition (including our kids as well). We tried alternating who got to pick every week but after one rotation we realized we'd end up at McDonald's three weeks in a row (the kids) and then two weeks of something else (us). Luckily after a couple rotations the kids now seem to choose slightly better (though pizza is still popular). Unfortunately the average bill has gone up as well. ;)

It's the combination of free toys with the Happy Meals, sundaes, and the Playland that make for a very strong appeal to a 5 year old

I've got three of my own, so I can seriously sympathize. I'm trying my best to wean them off McDonald's though - that stuff is seriously bad for you.
