Beta Testers Wanted

**Edit – I’m not seeking any more beta testers at this time**

My next casual game is coming along nicely, and I’m looking for some beta testers.

The game introduces a significant twist on the basic match-3 mechanic. I think it’s pretty fun, but I want to see what you think.

Beta testers who provide useful feedback will receive a free copy of the full version when it’s done.

Windows only at this time (A mac version is possible, but would happen later).

If interested, e-mail me at psteinmeyer A T newcrayon d0t com.

Please let me know if you or your significant other work for another developer, a portal, or are in some other way employed within the industry.

I may not respond immediately, as I’m not sure exactly when I’ll do the first beta, and I may do it in waves, gradually rolling the game out to larger groups of beta testers…

I really would like the opportunity to play this game you’re talking about. But it must be a game for x-box, gamecube, playstation2, or x-box 360.

  2. Phil Steinmeyer Says:

PC only for now. Mac reasonably likely. X-Box 360 only if it’s a hit and gets on X-Box Live Arcade

  3. Sam Says:

Please follow the post instructions and e-mail me. I’m organizing this by e-mails in my Outlook Express folders.

  6. Jason Hood Says:

I would like more information as I am fairly new to all this.

  7. Herb Baum Says:

Would love to participate in your research. My family and I are big gamers for PS2 and computer on-line. Shiatsu, X_Mattius and Lora_Ly.

  8. Phil Steinmeyer Says:

It’s pretty simple – send me an e-mail with the request info. At some point I will send accepted beta testers a link to the beta version of the software. Download it, and send me your comments.

So far, I’ve only done one small round, and about 80% of the people who initially e-mailed me have NOT been sent the link, but hopefully most of them should be included in future rounds (depending on how much beta testing I do).

I would really like to test your game (or any other game you might be working). Please reply to me and I can explain to you my testing experience
    Thank you,
    Jake Lawrence

  10. Phil Steinmeyer Says:

Again – e-mail me as indicated in the initial post. Failure to follow instructions is not promising for those who want to beta test 🙂

  11. Sam Says:

What is your e-mail, good, kind sir?

  12. Phil Steinmeyer Says:

My e-mail is in the original post (at top). Camouflaged slightly to avoid spam-bots.

[…] Just a quick progress update. I am slowly but surely making progress on my next casual game. I’ve seeded it out to a couple of beta groups, but not yet to everyone who asked to be in the beta. I plan to use most of the folks who asked to be in the beta, but I want to break it into stages, so that there’s ‘fresh eyes’ looking at the game every week or two. […]

    Hi Phil,
I’ve beta’d for Ultima Online shortly before it was released, from there I played 5 yrs after pub-release. Then moved onto Starwars galaxies, unable to beta, I still helped in finding graphical errors, text errors, and different bugs that may have occured. And recently, world of warcraft, where I’ve been digging up graphical errors and sending them into to blizzards teams. I am currently running Max OS X, also have a PC, and a PS2, still working on getting the PS3. Feel free to contact me with any questions, I have left my mail for you.
    Thanks,
    Joshua

Hi Phil, I am interested in testing your game. I think this would be good for me, and you. I am currently open to do things any time. I had surgery last year and considered partially disabled so I think this would be the perfect thing for me. I am 32 years old with 2 children and actually looking in to becoming a beta tester full time. I am also very experienced in video games so maybe you can give me pointers on how to go about becoming a beta tester. Thank You.

As a reminder, the directions for applying to be a beta tester are in the original post. E-mail as directed – don’t just post in the comments. I don’t know when the next beta test will be. Could be soon, could be months or longer (or possibly never).
